The Indians appear to be officially throwing in the towel as the rumors around C.C. Sabathia continue to gain momentum. If the Indians were to trade the young Cy Young Winner then the usual suspect comes to mind, the New York Yankees. Sure the Brian Cashman has been said to have been conservative in the last few years, but this would be to save his job.

With the Yankees in third place, a payroll exceeding $200 million mark, and an injured Chien-Ming Wang he has more motivation than most to make this happen. Others suggest that the Cubs could be in the market to solidify their rotation in time to end the 100-year drought in story book fashion.

Of course that means that the rest of the early World Series contenders are just as likely to try and play ball with Cleveland. Expect to hear about The Phillies and the Red Sox offering to deplete their farm system to win the big one.

All this relies on the Indians deciding that their run has ended in the American league Central, but the division is far from won. The Indians, Tigers, and Twins are all very much in the hunt. This means that Sabathia will not be gone before the All Star break so we’ll still have a little while to sweat this rumor out.

Sure baseball may be in full swing. The nation has moved on from hockey and basketball to the Yankees, Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs, but the NBA Draft is still on people’s minds.

The Chicago Bulls have the first pick and look terrified holding it. Do they go for Michael Beasley to make up for the Elton Brand trade al those years ago or do they try to get the Derrick Rose and catch the next Chris Paul.

Their decision is going to hold the Miami Heat hostage, as they have to decide whether to trade the pick or keep it. They want Rose big time and will be forced to sit still telling all the trade offers to wait until they can make a clear move.

The draft is so deep this year that those teams all the way down to the bottom of the first round-like the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers- could find a useful rotation player.

The year has not been good so far for baseball in New York. The Yankees are finally starting to breakout of a funk with a great interleague play record in this last week, but they are stuck behind a surprising Tampa Bay team and are chasing a strong Red Sox club that will be looking to win its second AL East pennant.

The news got worse when they were forced to put Chien-Ming Wang on the DL. The team generally makes some kind of a late season push and/or ridiculous desperation trade, so the season is far from over for them.

The Mets are stuck after replacing Willie Randolph with Jerry Manuel. The firing is bound to go down in history as one of the worst PR moves in professional sports history. Calling somebody up at 3 a.m. across the country after they just beat somebody is never a good thing.

The Mets are hoping that Pedro Martinez will return soon to help out the starting pitching, which only really goes two deep right now with Johan Santana and John Maine. New York will get the honor of hosting the All Star game in Yankee Stadium in its last season, so all is at least the House that Ruth Built is getting a ceremonious sendoff
